What Deck Cleaning and Staining Involve
Every deck starts with a wash. Our products do not harm plants or animals, which matters
when the deck sits over flower beds or the dog lives out there all summer. It is the same
approach we use for house power washing, so the two
often get booked together.
Next comes deck stain removal. Old stain that has peeled in patches has to come off, or the
new coat will peel right along with it. Then we stain with a water-based product in the
color you pick, brushed into the cracks and end grain instead of sitting on top like a
sprayed coat. Painted railings or trim around the deck go to our
house painters on the same schedule.
Deck Problems We See All Over Upper Bucks
Green and black growth on boards that never dry out. Decks on the wooded lots out toward
Lake Nockamixon are the usual suspects, because the shade keeps them damp well into the
afternoon. Gray, splintered wood on decks that bake in full sun. Stain that let go after
one winter because it was sprayed over dirt.
Some decks need more than deck refinishing. Loose boards, rotted stair treads and soft
posts are common deck repair jobs, and we can fix, replace or rebuild those sections before
we wash and stain. Larger wood work moves over to our
carpentry services.
*Note: Decks must be at least one year old before stain can be applied.
